What inspired you to become an artist?
It’s the sense of community and bringing people together that drew me to music initially. When I was a teenager, I used to look at the big festivals in Europe and always dreamed of going over there to experience what it was like to be among that many people brought together by the power of music. When I finally turned 18, I wholeheartedly immersed myself in the local dance music scene, and it was there that I discovered my true passion for creating and performing my own music. Being part of the vibrant crowd brought me immense joy and inspiration.
How would you describe your music style or genre?
A balance between melodic and hard techno. Beautiful melodies and lush soundscapes complemented by hypnotic rhythms and thumping kick drums.
Can you share a bit about your musical journey and how it has evolved over the years?
My DJ journey began with playing at parties, and later I progressed to performing at clubs. I had the privilege of being a resident DJ at esteemed venues like 170 Russell St, CQ, and Bourke St Courtyard. However, everything took an unfortunate turn when the pandemic struck, causing all gigs to come to a halt. During this unforeseen break from non-stop performing, I had the chance to reflect deeply on the music that truly moved my soul.
Stepping back from the constant hustle and bustle of the DJ scene, I started focusing on creating music for myself rather than catering solely to others’ preferences. This period of introspection allowed me to delve into the depths of my passion and find a more authentic expression of my artistry.
What are some of your biggest musical influences?
Ritchie Hawtin and Stephan Bodzin are my biggest influences. There is an element of risk in performing electronic music live like they do which really adds to the allure and fascination
Can you share any memorable experiences or stories from your live performances?
Finishing up running the last Saltare doof. We had the marvellous idea of running the stage out of the back of a truck to make the pack up easier. By 5am everyone had left and it was just myself and co-host Mark who were left to drive the truck back from Kew to St Kilda. To our despair, we were left with a flat battery forcing us to leave the truck there overnight till we could get the RACV to help us out in the morning.
Are there any specific venues or festivals that hold a special place in your heart? Why?
Beyond the Valley will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the first multi day festival I attended. I parked myself in the dance tent the whole weekend and never left. I’ve been 4 times and it just levelled up every time. I had the pleasure of performing at the Dr. Dans stage in 2018/19 which is something I will never forget.
