What inspired you to become an artist?
All the musicians that came before me (and even ones now), that shared such crazy, deep & relatable experiences with their songs. The stories and feelings can just change everything about who you are and how you view things ~ truly the power of music is a whole phenomenon that blows my mind and is insanely inspiring.
How would you describe your music style or genre?
Lofi / Hip Hop / Boombap
Can you share a bit about your musical journey and how it has evolved over the years?
Yeah, I started by piling up ridiculous stacks of mp3s in my itunes library – then i found out about the DAW ~ back in maybe 2008. Once i got onto it and figured out i could make the music i was listening to on it, i never looked back since. Eventually i moved over using hardware like the SP404’s. Now i’ve been utilising both.
What are some of your biggest musical influences?
Linkin Park, Dibia$e, Kendrick Lamar, Tame Impala, Pete Rock, J Dilla, Budamunk, Tajima Hal, Kaytranada +
Tell us about your creative process when producing a new track or mix.
Lately, i usually like to carve out a drum loop on the SP or MPC ~ whether thats using one shots, loops or both – quantised or unquantised > then i go to digging for something melodic that i like that feels like a matches. After that, its all about choppin, blending, adding fx, variations ~ whatever gets it vibin.
Can you share any memorable experiences or stories from your live performances?
Yeah i remember a beat battle a few months ago ~ if i didnt win the round i was going to be eliminated, so i played my most fire beat – i didnt get the vote through, but for me it was a crazy experience playing it, it felt like i was putting every part of me out there in the airwaves and i just rocked it. I felt so much energy.
How do you feel the music scene has changed over the years, and what impact has it had on your work?
I feel like its gotten way more niche for everyone. Its grown wider. You can go listen in on so many specific genres now – you can access so much music you would never have thought to before. I feel like it opened me up to waves of music different from the mainstream.
Are there any specific venues or festivals that hold a special place in your heart? Why?
Section 8 venue in Melbourne is becoming that way for me. The events and people there are unique – even the way its designed – everything. It feels like something so artistic and so in the moment.
Lastly, what message or feeling do you hope to convey to your listeners through your music?
vibezzzz and feels
